Skateboard Clothing: Hoodies, Sweaters, Element, Volcom, Ezekiel And Fallen

Some of the most popular skateboard clothing are skateboard hoodies and skateboard sweaters. Although the stereotypical skateboarder is generally sporting a t-shirt and blue jeans, today's skateboarder is expected to be prepared for all types of weather, especially those living far from the epicenter of the skateboarding phenomenon, sunny California.

Although Zero and Independent are perhaps two of the most popular makers of skateboard clothing, skaters have a long list of companies to pick from. The list includes skateboard gear and clothing companies from Adio to Zoo York.

Zero is currently celebrating its ten year anniversary. Founded in 1996, Zero is a popular maker of boards, wheels and a line of clothing that includes popular t-shirts and hoodies.

Independent Truck Company has been popular with the skate subculture since its founding in 1978. After over a quarter of a century, Independent continues to make some of the world's best trucks as well as full lines of clothing and accessories. Popular among them are their skater hoodies.

Element has successfully catered to the skate community for well over ten years. Their staff of artists features the talents of Michael Leon, Curtis Bennet and Andrew Pommier while their skateboard artist stable features Don Pendleton, Matt Irving and Todd Francis.

Volcom has also become known for their hoodies and sweaters complete with their infamous stone logo. Inspired by a snowboarding trip, Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall started as a snow, surf and skate company in the early 1990s. Their first year sales totaled $2,600 but have grown into a net income of $26.3 million. The company has grown beyond its primary concern–snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding–to include "art, music, films, athletes and clothing."

Less mainstream, smaller outfits are rising in popularity and competing with makers that have come to be looked at as institutions of the culture.

Growing in popularity, Zoo York started as a graffiti and skateboard crew in the late 1970s. Zoo York is known for the unique style of their skateboard clothing and most popular for their board graphics–created and drawn by some of New York's very own graffiti artists. Their stunning ZY logo in the same script as the NY of the New York Yankees graces some of their more popular gear.

Although not as popular outside the skate community, companies like Fallen have also become popular for their lines of skateboard clothing. Ezekiel although not a dedicated skateboard clothing company, has made successful appeals to the skate and surf communities.
