What better place to pick up skateboarding than in a state where the weather rarely dips below 40 degrees? Florida is warm practically all year round. Sure, states in the northern half of the United States have indoor skate parks, but in Florida skaters do not need to go inside when it is beautiful outside nearly every day.
Skate parks are located all over the state of Florida; anyone living in the state should never have to drive more than an hour and a half to get to one of the state’s many skate parks.
To find skate parks in your area, check out the Web site www.skateboardparks.com and click on your state. You will find more than 25 skate parks in Florida, most with brief descriptions of their facilities along with contact information.
Wearing pads to skate parks usually is mandatory, or at least mandatory for persons under the age of 18. If you do not have a complete set of equipment including but not limited to knee pads, a helmet and wrist guards, do not worry; most skate parks offer rental equipment.
Popular Florida skate parks include the Skatepark of Tampa (SPOT), the Skate Crate Skatepark, the SFX Skatepark, the Orlando Skatepark and the Paradise Funplex Skatepark. These parks offer a diverse range of half pipes, quarter pipes, vert ramps, pools, indoor and outdoor street courses as well as handrails, boxes and kids’ areas for young skaters.
Most of the outdoor parks in Florida are open year round from sunrise until sunset, offering plenty of time to get your skate on any given day any time of the year.
If you have never been to a skate park before what are you waiting for? Call ahead and ask if the nearby skate park offers lessons. Just because you have never done something before is not an excuse to never try it. Skateboarding is a sweet way to get outdoors, get a workout and hang out with friends. With so many kids getting back in to skateboarding, skateboards are no longer just a fad in danger of dying out. It is a sport, a passion and a way of life for many people.
Get off of your couch, get online and check out the skate parks in your neck of the woods. Take your skateboard and get your groove on at your local skate park.
